JEST Improv's signature Youth Summer Comedy Program is back to bring the wonder of improv comedy to the youth of Ventura County! This will be a great environment for young people who are looking to explore their comedic voice/comedy acting and/or looking to spend the last part of their summer laughing and creating with new friends. These programs are structured for ages 8-17.

Program participants will explore the fundamentals of improv as taught by the JEST Improv Comedy School and develop skills like creative thinking, self-confidence, listening, getting out of your head, team building, empathy, handling anxiety and communication, all while having loads of fun! They’re introduced to basic improv games, the art of creating a story as a group and creating fun characters on stage.

There will be two programs taking place over the summer: The first will take place on June 17th, 19th, 21st, 24th, 26th and 28th with a showcase on June 29th. The second program will take place on July 29th, 31st, August 2nd, 5th, 7th, and 9th with the showcase being on August 9th. Each session will be from 10am-2pm. There will be multiple breaks throughout the session with a 30 minute lunch break. Concessions/beverages will be available for the students.. Each session will be from 10am-2pm.

Deadline to sign up for the first program is June 10th and for the second program it is July 22nd.


The entire cost of the program will be $250. Your payment of $25 will go towards this cost and you will be responsible for paying the rest of the amount at the door on the first day of class ($225).


There will be multiple breaks throughout each class with a 30 minute lunch break. Concessions/beverages will be available for the students.

Meet the Instructor​​
            

Dawn Balk has been with JEST since its founding in 2018, and is currently a member of the performing group, and of the teaching staff. She has been working with youth in a professional capacity for many years and is intent on endlessly spreading her Improv mania to aspiring performers.

​Dawn was cast in many performing groups while living in Chicago and attended several summers of intensive theater training camps before earning her BA in Communications/TV production from Columbia College Chicago.​

Bunker Theater Details

JEST improv Summer Youth Programs will be located at The Bunker Theater (2750 East Main Street Unit B2 in Ventura). The Bunker Theater is located downstairs in Unit B2. If you are entering from the Smart and Final parking lot please go through the glass doors on the left in front of the Thrift Shop and go down the stairs. You will see the theater on your left after you go down the stairs (across from the Martial Arts studio). If you are entering from Main Street (through the Ballet Studio) please go down the stairs and go through their main lobby. Once you are through the lobby you will take a right into the hallway and soon you will see the theater on your right.
